Under direct supervision of the Public Works Superintendent, the Aquatic Center Manager Event Coordinator will have the overall responsibility for safety at the aquatic facility, as well as managerial, administrative, facility, communications and leadership duties.

Aquatic Job Duties

  • Responsible for managing all aspects of aquatic center staff: Including hiring, training, scheduling staff assignments; Meeting regularly with staff; advise and coach lifeguards and all other aquatic staff. Perform staff evaluations at the middle and end of the season; monitor timesheets and prepare payroll reports.
  • Manages aquatic center programs and activities; such as swimming lessons. Manages and assists with registration, the sale and distribution of aquatic center passes, based on policies and procedures set by the City of Belle Plaine.
  • Recommends necessary equipment and supplies for the safe operation the aquatic center.
  • Provides a monthly activity report to the Public Works Superintendent regarding safety, staff, facility, swim lessons, and pool pass issues.
  • Instills attention to safety with lifeguards and other aquatic staff as well as with guests; enforces all rules and regulations of the aquatic center among both staff and guests.
  • Administer First Aid, CPR, emergency and other safety procedures as required.
  • May act as instructor or lifeguard when necessary.
  • Participate in the opening and closing the aquatic center facilities each season.
  • Oversee daily cleaning of the aquatic center, bathhouse/restroom facility, concession area, including the outside grounds.
  • Responsible for ordering and accounting for all concessions based on policies and procedures set by the City of Belle Plaine.

Event Coordinator Duties

  • Responsible for managing all aspects of seasonal recreation and event personnel; including hiring, training, scheduling and monitoring all staff.
  • Manages recreational programs and activities; such as summer ball, ice rink hours, overseeing special events and have flexibility to create innovative programing. Responsible for registration, scheduling facilities, and working with other organizations for shared spaces.
  • Recommends necessary equipment and supplies for the safe operation of all events.
  • Provides a monthly activity report to the Public Works Superintendent regarding all activities and provides input for budget development.
  • Instills attention to safety seasonal employees as well as with guests; enforces all rules and regulations among both staff and guests.
  • Participate in the opening and closing of City recreation facilities each season.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating a large, multi-pool aquatic facility.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of public swimming pools and public baths
  • Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Knowledge of commonly accepted teaching methods for swimming instruction including those outlined by the American Red Cross.
  • Knowledge of water safety rules, lifesaving techniques and first aid procedures.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of certification standards in area of specialty.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation, cost estimating, monitoring, and fiscal management principles and procedures
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and certify lifeguards and all other staff.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Skills in program planning and development and facility management and scheduling.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Evaluate situations and act properly and quickly in emergencies
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and with other entities

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to work under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, crouch, squat, kneel, stoop, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Hearing normal or corrected to normal.
  • Eyesight 30/40 or corrected to 30/40.
  • Ability to work in conditions presenting exposure to hazardous materials, adverse weather conditions, confined spaces, and noisy or unstable working environments, above and below ground level.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Additional experience may be substituted for degree.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

License/Certificates   Must possess the following certificates at the time of appointment:

  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (W.S.I);
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • American Red Cross First Aid (multi-media, standard or advanced;
  • and American Red Cross or American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R)

            *Preference given to individuals certified as instructors for WSI and Lifeguard certification.
